Just a little sleep science: Sleep study (also known as polysomnography or PSG) is a comprehensive test that involves monitoring various body activities and physiological parameters related to sleep and breathing. It provides vital information about sleep architecture and respiratory patterns experienced during sleep and is administered to either diagnose or rule out different types of sleep disorders.
Body functions monitored during a sleep study include:
All our sleep studies are performed at The Sleep Cottage where your child’s sleep is monitored by a professional team. Your child is more than welcome to bring some comfort items, including favourite bedtime toys, pillow or blanket, and superhero jammies (NO ONSIES). And since you will be staying with them in the same room for the whole night, they should be able to relax knowing they’re not alone.
At The Sleep Cottage we use innovative technologies and sleep monitoring equipment that’s mainly wireless, so your child’s movements aren’t restricted, and they can settle in for a comfortable night. While there will be sensors and electrodes attached to their body (head, chest, abdomen, arms and legs), the procedure is non-invasive and painless.
For almost 100% of our patients, one night at The Sleep Cottage is enough to perform a complete sleep study. Arrive with your child between 5.30 - 6 pm and go back home at 6/7 am in the morning. Return at a convenient appointment time to discuss the results and treatment options. It’s as simple as that!
The Sleep Cottage uses cutting-edge equipment to obtain the most precise, reliable data while making the experience painless, non-invasive and as comfortable as possible. SenTec Digital Monitoring System. SDMS ensures non-invasive, continuous measurement of oxygen saturation (SpO2), transcutaneous carbon dioxide (TcPCO2), and pulse rate (PR). Nox A1 PSG monitor, thanks to its portability and small size, doesn’t affect comfort during the sleep, while wireless communication with sensors allows the patient to move as they please.
